Welcoming Our New Deputy Executive Director!

We are excited to announce Amanda Barker as our new Deputy Executive Director and Director of Civic Health Programs!

First, we would like to thank Kelsey Arends for all of her incredible service to Nebraskans for Civic Reform. Kelsey started our civic health initiatives, led the creation of the Civic Health Index, and has taken Nebraskans for Civic Reform to the next level with her leadership. We are happy she chose to stay in Nebraska as a student at the University of Nebraska College of Law in the Fall!

Amanda will take over Kelsey’s administrative duties as the Deputy Executive Director, and will lead all of our civic health initiatives across the state. Overseeing the Rural Civic Action Project, Civic Health Summit, among others.

Amanda has a background in non-profit work, having previously been at the Arbor Day Foundation and the Nebraska Human Resources Institute, as well as MindMixer and Nebraska Tourism.  She has a passion for civic engagement, community development, and the great state of Nebraska. She also was one of the founding members of Nebraskans for Civic Reform, and served on the board of directors for many years.

Growing up on a farm near Nebraska City, Amanda learned firsthand the value of being an active member of the community. She attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and studied political science, economics, and English.  Amanda serves on several boards in the Lincoln community, including the NonProfit Hub Board of Directors, Clinic with a Heart development committee, and the Engagement Committee at First Plymouth Church.  Outside of the office, she can most likely be found reading, attempting house renovation projects, and playing or watching tennis.

Please join me in thanking Kelsey for all of her hard work and dedication to NCR, and welcome Amanda Barker to the team!
